Mission Statement

The Editors of The Journal of Sustainable Real Estate are dedicated to working with scholars in existing and emerging markets to produce high quality papers to expand knowledge in the field of sustainability and the built environment.

JOSRE's History

The Journal of Sustainable Real Estate was started in 2008 and put out its first volume in 2009. The University of San Diego and the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate were founding supporters of both the journal and website. Initially JOSRE was supported for several years by CoStar, Andy Florance, and the Land Economics Foundation of Canada.

Dr. Norm Miller, as JOSRE‘s Founder and initial Senior Editor,  with Myla Wilson, as Managing Editor, worked on a volunteer basis since the journal’s inception. In 2016 Dr. Robert A. Simons from Cleveland State University’s Levin College of Urban Affairs became Senior Editor and Amelia S. Caldwell became Managing Editor.

What makes JOSRE different?
Like other journals JOSRE uses a double blind review process and has high academic standards. Unlike other journals, we post cases and industry resources useful for those who teach or want to learn more about sustainability. Please suggest new resources and links that you find valuable. We also encourage the use of color in graphs and live resource links in our journal articles since the volumes are available online. We printed Volume 1 and 7, but do not plan on sending out hard copies in the future. After all this online approach is more sustainable.

We are seeking the assistance of Deans, Center Directors, and faculty from around the world to help us find researchers engaged in sustainable business programs, corporate social responsibility programs, environmental economics, and design that want to disseminate their scientific findings in this peer reviewed journal. We appreciate help in spreading the word of this publication.
